Rich in texture and warmth, this pillow is handwoven with a unique blend of wild white and wild brown cotton, creating a soft light caramel hue with natural depth. Its earthy, almost chiné look makes it a timeless accent. Think of it as a natural play of light and shade within the same hue.

Each pillow is made to order by our artisans. Please allow 6–8 weeks for your piece to be handwoven and delivered.

Message from our Founder

This pillow holds a special place in Behind the Hill’s story. Its texture and soft caramel hue have been part of our collections since the very beginning. For this edition, I reimagined it with a sturdier construction — the same fabric on both sides and an extra inner layer — making it more resilient while keeping the beauty and essence that first inspired me.

Craftsmanship

The cotton is hand-harvested, hand-spun, and handwoven in Mexico on a traditional backstrap loom. Assembled in Mexico with brass zipper.

Heirloom colored cotton

Heirloom cotton from Mexico grows in permaculture fields, intercropped with bananas, coffee trees, and avocados. Naturally rain-fed and cultivated without pesticides, it follows regenerative agricultural practices that nurture biodiversity and restore the soil. Because it is dye-free, its soft shades of white and brown are the raw colors of the cotton as it grows on the tree.

Ancestral Craft

Each fiber is hand-harvested, hand-spun, and woven on a traditional backstrap loom, an ancestral technique practiced for centuries. This knowledge, passed down through generations of women, is not only about making fabric—it is about preserving memory, rhythm, and identity in cloth.

Nature’s Signature

Because the cotton is left in its natural state, no two pieces are ever identical.

The interplay of wild fibers, irregular texture, and handwoven structure gives each pillow a tactile richness and subtle variation that machines cannot replicate. The result is more than a home accent, it is a one-of-a-kind work of design, where nature and tradition converge in something both timeless and exceptional.
